GIS Maximises Employment Opportunities
Thursday, 10 March 2011

We are working with the Economy, Employment and Youth Service at Stirling Council, as they look for better ways to map and report on intervention and business related data.

To improve business support and sustainable economic growth, the Economy, Employment and Youth Service provide services to maximise employment opportunities for a wide variety of client groups and improve employers’ access to suitable staff.

Two key areas of the service are Employability and Youth Services.  The Employability Service helps people who have special requirements find employment through placements of Supported Employment with local employers.  Similarly, the Youth Service supports young people seeking work through a range of programmes including Apprenticeships and Internal Placements etc.

As result, the different service areas have a number of disparate systems holding subset of low level/relevant data.  In order to access and share data and record higher levels of information, the Service require a single system that will store and manage details of businesses and vacancies they wish to fill and clients seeking employment.

GIS is the perfect tool to integrate this information and display the engagements across the different service in one easily accessible place.  Using map representation will enable spatial reporting that will help the Council pinpoint certain patterns and trends in specific geographical areas.  This will provide high level strategic information which will highlight where to target resources and efficiently implement policies.
