7th July 2010 Forth Valley GIS Achieve ISO9001 accreditation
Forth Valley GIS is delighted to announce it's recent certification with the International Quality Management System Standard ISO9001: 2008 for the provision of geographical information services.
In an ambitious timescale of 6 months, establishing the Quality Management System (QMS) has involved a review of all the company's business processes, identifying gaps and improvement opportunities to provide a systematic approach for the delivery of our services. The QMS enables us to identify, measure, control and improve our core business processes, which will continually enhance levels of customer satisfaction.

26th February 2010 Forth Valley GIS Training Courses now AGI Accredited
Forth Valley GIS is delighted to announce that both Starting Out in ArcGIS and Data Capture in ArcGIS training courses have been approved by the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation.
Delegates who attend either course are eligible to receive 4 CPD points towards their Continual Professional Development under the Chartered Geographer scheme.
Forth Valley GIS provides a range of training courses covering different levels of GIS requirements. Our training courses range from an introduction to principles of GIS to practical courses using ArcGIS and web-based GIS applications. We also provide targeted training for new applications or project-based requirements.

17th December 2009 Forth Valley GIS working towards ISO9001 accreditation
Forth Valley GIS is pleased to announce that Consultancy52 have been appointed to assist with the development and implementation of an ISO9001:2008 compliant Quality Management System (QMS). Consultancy52 are a management and training consultancy who have worked extensively across a wide range of business sectors and have a wealth of experience in Quality Management, Business Continuity and Information Security Management. We look forward to working with Consultancy52. Our aim is to achieve ISO9001:2008 accreditation by Spring 2010.

14th December 2009 New Software Developer
Forth Valley GIS is pleased to welcome Ian Feeney to the team as an additional Software Developer. Ian will be involved in a variety of development projects for a number of Forth Valley GIS customers.
Ian has a wealth of GIS and software development experience from his previous role as a GIS Developer with the Forestry Commission, where he was involved with developing web services and other internet enabled GIS technologies. Ian has also worked for Macaulay Research Consultancy Services and RBS and has an MSc. in GIS from Edinburgh University. We look forward to the skills and experience that Ian will bring to the FVGIS team.
4th December 2009 Award Winning European SDI Best Practice
Forth Valley GIS is proud to announce its success at the recent European SDI Best Practice Awards 2009. Forth Valley GIS was selected from 135 entries across 26 European countries as a best practice example of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) a business framework that enables ready access to geographic information to support the improved delivery of public services. 11th November 2009 Shortlisted for European SDI Best Practice Award
Forth Valley GIS is very pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted for a best practice award as part of the eSDI-NET+ programme. The awards recognise best practice in Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) and Forth Valley GIS has a highly successful sustainable business and technical model that provides significant shared service benefits to many public sector partners across Scotland.
The 12 shortlisted SDI projects were drawn from 160 previously selected European projects across all member states. As part of the eContentPlus initiative, the objective of e-SDI-NET+ is to establish a network across member states that helps to raise awareness, advance technical discussions, knowledge sharing and collaboration that will help support pan-European initiatives such as INSPIRE. The awards will take place in Turin as part of an international conference on 26th-27th November 2009.

11th November 2009 Forth Valley GIS increases the number of PRINCE2 practitioners
Forth Valley GIS is happy to announce through our commitment to improving our services we now have 9 PRINCE2 practitioners working for the company. A number of staff were recently put through their paces by PRINCE2 training and all succeeded in attaining practitioner status. Our ability to manage projects effectively to time and budget is a core strength of Forth Valley GIS limited and a benefit to our customers.'
3rd November 2009 Forth Valley GIS to Exhibit at AGI Scotland
Forth Valley GIS will be exhibiting at the AGI Scotland event on 12th November in Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh. This years event is titled One Scotland, One Geography: Agility, Innovation and Pragmatism and marks the 10th anniversary of AGI Scotland.

21st October 2009 New Management Structure
As part of an organisation review and a subsequent restructure of the management roles within Forth Valley GIS Ltd we are pleased to announce a number of new appointments to our management team.
Linda Workman, previously the company’s Office Manager, will assume the role of Business Support Manager looking after all aspects of company governance. Gary Semple moves on from his role as GIS Services Manager to become Forth Valley GIS’s Business Development Manager where he will be focussed on planning and developing market opportunities. Tom Moore will take on the role of Solutions Manager and be focussed on the technical solutions and projects Forth Valley GIS offer.
The skills Linda, Gary and Tom will bring to these new roles will help Forth Valley GIS develop and grow the range of services and innovative GI solutions while continuing to provide first class customer service.
16th July 2009 OASIS showcase event
Building on the local success of OASIS (Online Antisocial Information Sharing System),and the growing interest in the system from other Community Planning Partnerships, Forth Valley GIS recently hosted an event to demonstrate the system to a wide range of ASB professionals from across Scotland. The event was attended by staff from Local Authorities, Police and Fire Services. The focus of the day was to discuss how OASIS can help to facilitate partnership working. The agenda included a demonstration of the system and presentations on the background to the project and the benefits that the system is delivering locally. The presentations stimulated some interesting discussions and attendees were able to share ideas with colleagues from other partnerships.
19th June 2009 OASIS short-listed for 2009 Government Computing Awards
The OASIS system (for sharing information on Antisocial Behaviour between) was recently short-listed for the 2009 GC (Government Computing) Awards. The awards aim is to reward excellence in public sector IT and the short listing recognises the good 'collaborative working' of the partner organisations that has been integral to the success of the project.
14th April 2009 Online Antisocial Behaviour Information Sharing Site (OASIS) goes live
OASIS, the new Forth Valley GIS web-based system for sharing information on antisocial behaviour (ASB) was launched to staff across Central Scotland Police, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils at the end of 2008.
The system currently provides over 200 users with access to an interactive mapping interface which brings together incidents of ASB recorded in a wide range of local systems (e.g. Police Command and Control data, Community Wardens logs, night noise team records etc.) as well as registers of various legal interventions that have been used in relation to ASB (e.g. Dispersal Orders and Antisocial Behaviour Orders).
A wider rollout of the system will take place over the coming months which will also provide users with access to online forms for sharing more detailed information on ASB. For more information read the OASIS case study.
14th April 2009 New Administration Staff
As a result of continued business growth Forth Valley GIS has recruited a number of administration staff - Eileen Zerbinati joins the team as an additional office administrator and both Sarah McDonald and Megan Hatley have been employed as receptionists. Eileen, Sarah and Megan will undertake a variety of administrative work enhancing the day to day running of the business.
21st January 2009 New GIS Support Officer
Forth Valley GIS are pleased to welcome Lorna Sherman to the team as an additional GIS Support Officer. Lorna will assist the support team in providing GIS support on all aspects of desktop and web based GIS to a variety of Forth Valley GIS customers, including Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire councils.
Lorna has a wealth of GIS experience from her previous position at HarperCollins publishers where she helped maintain the databases that are used to create the Times Atlas of the World and other Collins Bartholomew mapping. Lorna also has experience of using mobile GIS for survey work with Amey and a degree in Geographical Information and Mapping Science from Glasgow University. We look forward to the experience that Lorna will bring to FVGIS and all of our customers.
28th November 2008 New GIS Support Officer
Forth Valley GIS are pleased to welcome Hugh McMichael to the team as an additional GIS Support Officer. Hugh will be the primary contact for National Gazetteer customers and will help ensure the smooth upload of Local Authorities gazetteer extracts.
Hugh has a wealth of GIS and gazetteer experience from his previous position as Gazetteer Officer with Fife Council and before that a postgraduate degree in applied geospatial technology. We look forward to the skills and experience that Hugh will bring to the FVGIS team!

4th November 2008 New GIS Database Administrator
Forth Valley GIS are pleased to welcome Yvonne Gentles to the team as our new GIS Database Administrator. Yvonne will be working alongside our existing DBA providing support to a number of customers and projects Forth Valley GIS are currently working on.
Yvonne was previously a lead DBA with Barclays Wealth supporting an estate of over 300 databases. We look forward to the skills and experience that Yvonne will bring to the FVGIS team!
